When my mother passed away I felt life threw a brick at my head knocking me flat to the ground. Despite her being elderly and very ill off and on for years, the fact that I’m a 59 year old woman…a mother myself with teens and a husband who needs me…this is how I felt after my dear mother passed away a year ago. Her passing not only left me to sort out my own feelings of grief, but to deal with a messy contested estate of which I was named executrix.

Lyn is an amazing coach. I entered the round pen with Bodie and Fancy with no expectations. I knew equine therapy was a “thing”, but had no idea why or how horses could help me ease some of the fears that I have struggled with most of my life.

I knew which fears I wanted to work on and Lyn began asking me questions to get to the root of them. At one point, she asked me to rephrase these fears and state my truth with courage and confidence. I took a deep breath and gave it everything I had. I looked my fears in the eyes, garnered every bit of self-confidence within me, and spoke from my core. Suddenly, I was bookended by two majestic horses. Fancy stood silently at my left shoulder and Bodie at my right. There it was – the undeniable confirmation from these pure and gifted creatures that I was truly present and speaking my truth.

There was a shift in me that day. And although the usual “triggers” still occur in my life and always will, my reaction to them now comes from a place of courage and empowerment rather than fear. Instead of playing the mind games of “what if” and questioning myself in the face of my underlying fears, I now feel fully confident in my truth and have the memory of Fancy and Bodie’s strength to back me up.
